After the winter comes the spring
To show us again that in everything There's always a renewal divinely planned. Flawlessly perfect, the work of God's hand. And just like the seasons that come and go When the flowers of spring lay buried in snow, God sends to the heart in its winter of sadness A springtime awakening of new hope and gladness. -Helen Steiner Rice

Love is like magic and it always will be,
For love still remains life's sweet mystery. Love works in ways that are wondrous and strange, And there's nothing in life that love cannot change. Love can transform the most commonplace Into beauty and splendor and sweetness and grace. Love is unselfish, understanding, and kind, For it sees with its heart and not with its mind. Love gives and forgives; there is nothing too much For love to heal with its magic touch. Love is the language that every heart speaks, For love is the one thing that every heart seeks. And where there is love God, too, will abide And bless the family residing inside. -Helen Steiner Rice Two vases stood on the Shelf of Life
As Love came by to look, One was of priceless cloisonne', The other of solid common clay. Which do you think Love took? He took them both from the Shelf of Life, He took them both with a smile; He clasped them both with his finger tips, And touched them both with caressing lips, And held them both for a while. From tired hands Love let them fall, And never a word was spoken. One was of priceless cloisonne', The other of solid common clay. Which do you think was broken? -Nan Terrell Reed When dark days come-and they come to us all-
We feel so helpless and lost and small. We cannot fathom the reason why, And it is futile for us to try To find the answer, the reason or cause, For the master plan is without any flaws. And when the darkness shuts out the light, We must lean on faith to restore our sight, For there is nothing we need know If we have faith that wherever we go God will be there to help us to bear Our disappointments, pain, and care. For He is our Shepherd, our Father, our Guide, And you're never alone with The Lord at your side. So may the great Physician attend you, And may His healing completely mend you. -Helen Steiner Rice Be glad that your life has been full and complete,
Be glad that you've tasted the bitter and sweet. Be glad that you've walked in sunshine and rain, Be glad that you've felt both pleasure and pain. Be glad that you've had such a full, happy life, Be glad for your joy as well as your strife. Be glad that you've walked with courage each day, Be glad you've had strength for each step of the way. Be glad for the comfort that you've found in prayer. Be glad for God's blessings, His love, and His care. -Helen Steiner Rice Although it sometimes seems to us
our prayers have not been heard, God always knows our every need without a single word, And He will not forsake us even though the way is steep, For always He is near to us, a tender watch to keep. And in good time He will answer us, and in His love He'll send Greater things than we have asked and blessings without end. So though we do not understand why trouble comes to man, Can we not be contended just to know it is God's plan? -Helen Steiner Rice There's truly nothing we need know
If we have faith wherever we go. God will be there to help us bear Our disappointments, pain, and care, For He is our Shepherd, our Father, our Guide. You're never alone with The Lord at your side. -Helen Steiner Rice Land of our Birth, we pledge to thee
Our love and toil in the years to be; When we are grown and take our place, As men and women with our race. Father in Heaven who lovest all, Oh help Thy children when they call; That they may build from age to age, An undefined heritage. Teach us to bear the yoke in youth, With steadfastness and careful truth; That, in our time, Thy Grace may give The Truth whereby the Nations live. Teach us to rule ourselves alway, Controlled and cleanly night and day; That we may bring, if need arise, No maimed or worthless sacrifice. Teach us to look in all our ends, On Thee for judge, and not our friends; That we, with Thee, may walk uncowed By fear or favour of the crowd. Teach us the Strength that cannot seek, By deed or thought, to hurt the weak; That, under Thee, we may possess Man's strength to comfort man's distress. Teach us Delight in simple things, And Mirth that has no bitter springs; Forgiveness free of evil done, And Love to all men 'neath the sun! Land of our Birth, our faith, our pride, For whose dear sake our fathers died; O Motherland, we pledge to thee, Head, heart, and hand through the years to be! Are you almost disgusted with life, little man?
I'll tell you a wonderful trick That will bring you contentment, if anything can, Do something for somebody quick! Are you awfully tired with play, little girl? Wearied, discouraged, and sick- I'll tell you the loveliest game in the world, Do something for somebody, quick! Though it rains, like the rain of the flood, little man, And the clouds are forbidding and thick, You can make the sun shine in your soul, little man, Do something for somebody, quick! Though the stars are like brass overhead, little girl, And the walks like a well-heated brick, And our earthly affairs in a terrible whirl, Do something for somebody, quick! Unknown The little cares that fretted me,
I lost them yesterday Among the fields above the sea, Among the winds at play; Among the lowing herds, The rustling of the trees, Among the singing birds, The humming of the bees. The fears of what may come to pass, I cast them all away, Among the clover-scented grass, Among the husking of the corn, Where the drowsy poppies nod, Where ill thoughts die and good are born, Out in the fields with God. -Louise Imogen Guiney |
